Marv Newland moved to Toronto after beginning his career making animated motion pictures in Los Angeles with the creation of the short Bambi Metts Godzilla (1969). In 1972 he moved to Vancouver and soon after founded the animated film production company International Rocketship. Here he produces and directs numerous animated short films including Beijing Flip Book in 2003. Rocketship also makes commercials, broadcast design and films (Gary Larson's Tales From The Far Side won the Grand Prix at Annecy in 1996). Marv recently completed a film for the NFB: Tete a Tete a Tete and in 2006 the Pacific Cinematheque in Vancouver screened a retrospective to celebrate Marv's distinguished career.
